2023: Sanwo-Olu Doesn’t Deserve Second Term – Labour Party

The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) lacks the capacity to effectively govern Lagos State, stressing that apart from lacking leadership capacity; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has also mismanaged the state’s resources and doesn’t deserve a second term in office.

Prince Ifagbemi Awamaridi, Lagos State chairman of the LP and the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last governorship election, in a chat with Daily Independent said that it was unfortunate that the APC which has failed to better the lots of Lagosians will be discussing a second term for Sanwo-Olu who according to him is the worst governor that Lagos State has ever produced.

“This government is the worst government in the history of Lagos State. Not just the worst democratically elected government, but the worst government since the creation of Lagos State. Lagos State is stagnant under Sanwo-Olu. The action of Sanwo-Olu during the #EndSARS protest in the state is unthinkable. People were killed and the governor denied that, when he was actually the one who invited the military,” Awamaridi said.

He added, “If a governor can deny knowledge of the killings, only to own up later to have invited the military, then it is terrible. The management of the state resources under him is questionable. What is happening in the Lekki Concession Company (LCC)? When APC members say that he is building infrastructure, I just wonder if commissioning the flyover that former governor Akinwumi Ambode built is part of what he should be given credit for.”

While insisting that Sanwo-Olu should be stopped in 2023, Awamaridi said, “When former governor Babatunde Fashola was there, people could see some of the things that he did. Ambode, although he has his faults because during his tenure there were lots of Forcefully Displaced Persons (FDPs), which was a great injustice against humanity, but there were things that he did, which can be pointed to, unlike Sanwo-Olu. It is true that the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu controls the governors who came after him but the other two used their discretion, unlike Sanwo-Olu.”

He blamed the governor for not being concerned about security, pointing out that Fulani bandits are flooding into Lagos State every day, and the governor doesn’t seem to be perturbed.
