The Osun State government on Thursday announced its decision to shut down lfeoluwa Grammar School, Osogbo until further notice following a recent invasion by bandits.

According to information gathered by theeditorng.com, some hoodlums caused chaos when they stormed the school premises on Thursday, at about 11.45 am.

They attacked both staff and students of the school with the cutlasses and other weapons they brought.

According to an eyewitness reports, the students and staff were forced to scamper to safety but one person was wounded with a machete cut before the Police arrived at the scene.

The wounded person has been hospitalized and is undergoing treatment.

“Egbatedo boys numbering about twenty invaded the school, they were brandishing cutlasses and other weapons. They sacked staff and pupils from the premises of the school because they were threatening to attack them. Reasons for their actions is not known.

“One person sustained machete cut and was taken to hospital before the arrival of the police to the scene. But the police arrested one of those hoodlums,” the eyewitness said.

The incident has also been confirmed by the spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, who added that one of the hoodlums has been arrested while the health condition of the wounded person is being monitored after he was taken to the hospital.

“Our men swiftly moved to the school that was invaded by armed youths, we arrested one of the suspects who was cut on his head and left arm. We took him to Osogbo Central Hospital for treatment and we are monitoring him closely.”

Following the development, the Coordinating Director of the Osun State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Kehinde Olaniyan announced in a statement on Thursday that the school will be closed down until further notice.

She noted that the closure is based on a directive from the Osun State Commissioner for Education.

In her words, “This is to inform the general public especially parents, guardians and students of lfeoluwa Grammar School Osogbo, that the Honourable Commissioner for Education has directed that the School be closed down temporarily until further notice.

“This step is necessary to prevent the breakdown of law and order occasioned by the invasion of the School by hoodlums and cultists masquerading as students. Parents and guardians are advised to keep their wards at home while the closure lasts.”
