Ibadan Elders Caution Olubadan, Move To End Rift With Makinde

The Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, has disclosed that Ibadan elders had intervened in the rift between the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

This online medium recalls that fresh political tension recently erupted in the state, after the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, alleged that Makinde was plotting to remove Ladoja, despite earlier denials by the state government and the palace.

Part of the statement read, “Those who are still in doubt, Governor Makinde’s plot to remove the Olubadan of Ibadan, Ladoja, should just keep their fingers crossed and follow unfolding events.”

Also following speculations of an impeachment plot against Makinde, the Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, distanced himself from the moves by some lawmakers.

Oyekola, who represents Atiba State Constituency, said in a statement on his verified Facebook page that he was not part of any such plan, stressing that he would not engage in activities capable of destabilising the state.

However, Ajibola, while addressing journalists at his private residence at Aladewura House, Sanyo, in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of the state, urged Oba Ladoja to tread carefully and stay clear of partisan politics in order to preserve the dignity of the institution.

According to him, the Olubadan is a revered traditional ruler, and his name should not be dragged into political matters.

Ajibola further advised Ladoja to play the role of a father to all politicians, irrespective of their political parties.

He said, “I want to allay the fear of our people in Ibadanland that there is no problem between Governor Seyi Makinde and His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. Our elders in Ibadan have waded into the matter.

“Most of you have been hearing a lot on social media. We don’t want problem in Ibadan anymore. You remember the era ‘Operation wet it’. Ibadan is ready to settle the problem. Our elders are up to the task.

“I hereby completely disassociate myself from any arrangement or activity that has the potential to disrupt the peace of Oyo State. I was never invited, never consulted, and was not part of any such meetings or arrangements.

“My personal advice to Baba Olubadan is simple. I have nothing against him, and I hold him in high regard. I do not want anything that will bring his office into disrepute, because I believe in the institution he represents.

“He should tread carefully and stay away from politics. The Olubadan is a revered traditional ruler, and his name should not be dragged into political matters. I want him to continue to be respected and upheld as a symbol of unity and tradition.”
