A public affairs analyst, Mahmud Jega, has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be very careful over the current crisis brewing in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
CityNews reports that the ADC is facing an internal crisis, leading to the derecognition of former Senate President, David Mark, as the national chairman of the party, and the national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.
While fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Friday, Jega alleged that the crisis is being engineered.
According to him, INEC is giving the impression of being part of a scheme to destroy all opposition parties.
He said, “The crisis in the ADC is being engineered. And INEC has to be very careful.
“The impression INEC is giving is that it is part of the scheme to destroy all opposition parties.
“The opposition wanted the ADA; INEC sat on it for 2 years. Now they have moved to ADC, and they are coming up with something else.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has accused the David Mark faction of the ADC of resorting to emotional blackmail rather than addressing the legal issues in their internal conflict.
Speaking via a post on his account, he alleged that the faction had inflicted itself with the situation on the ground.
The minister advised that the ADC should pursue a faster court process, reach a political agreement, or seek a more secure political option to avoid potential problems.
