2027 Elections: Shehu Sani Warns Democracy At Risk Without Credible Opposition

Shehu Sani Has Emphasised The Importance Of A Strong And Credible Opposition Ahead Of The 2027 General Elections, Warning That Democracy Cannot Function Effectively Without One.

Sani Made The Remarks During A Press Briefing In Kaduna While Reacting To The Controversy Involving Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

“I Must Warn Nigerians, We Need An Opposition. We Need Opposition In Any Democracy Because Without Opposition, A Nation Stands The Risk Of Sliding Into Grief,” He Said.

The Former Lawmaker, However, Expressed Doubts About The Credibility Of Those Currently Presenting Themselves As Alternative Leaders Ahead Of The Next General Election.

“But The Question You Have To Ask Yourself Is: Are These People Parading Themselves As Opposition Credible Enough To Offer A Genuine Alternative To Every One Of Us? These Are Questions We Must Ask,” Sani Added.

He Further Argued That Many Of The Individuals Now Positioning Themselves As Opposition Figures Were Part Of Past Administrations Which, In His View, Contributed To Nigeria’s Present Challenges.

Sani Maintained That Nigerians Must Look Beyond Familiar Political Actors In 2027 And Demand Leaders With Proven Integrity.
