NNPP expels House of Reps Member, Abdulmumin Jibrin

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, citing anti-party activities and failure to fulfil his financial obligations to the party.

The decision was announced on Saturday by the party’s state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, during a press briefing in Kano. He said Jibrin’s repeated public criticisms of the NNPP and its leadership left the party with no option but to sanction him.

The development comes barely a day after Jibrin hinted he might leave the party, stating that he was politically mature enough to decide his own future.

Dungurawa dismissed those remarks, describing the lawmaker as a “weak politician” whose electoral fortunes depended on the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he returned to the House of Representatives. Now he is deceiving himself, thinking he is strong,” the chairman said.

Failed Reconciliation

Dungurawa revealed that a reconciliation committee was set up after Jibrin’s controversial interview on Channels Television, but said the lawmaker worsened matters with fresh statements that contradicted party positions.

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to undermine our interests, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa declared.

Financial Dispute

The NNPP chairman also accused Jibrin of defaulting on mandatory membership dues, adding that the party would initiate legal proceedings to recover what it is owed.

“It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so. We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party,” he said.

Jibrin, a former federal lawmaker under the All Progressives Congress (APC), defected to the NNPP in 2022 and won reelection under its platform. His fallout with the NNPP leadership adds a new twist to Kano’s already turbulent political landscape, where loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya movement has often determined careers.
