BREAKING: Super Falcons Come From 2-0 Down Against Morocco To Win WAFCON 2024

The Editor Nigeria reports that the Super Falcons of Nigeria came from a 2-0 deficit against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on Saturday to win the TotalEnergies Africa Women’s Nations Cup (WAFCON 2024).

This online news platform understands that Nigeria’s Super Falcons completed #MissionX, becoming the first African team to win the WAFCON tournament for a record 10th time.

From being 2-0 down at half time, to scoring three goals in the second half, the Super Falcons did the impossible, beating the host nation to win the WAFCON 2024 tournament.

Hosts Morocco were on the verge of African Women’s football history to become the first North African country to win the TotalEnergies Africa Women’s Nations Cup WAFCON 2024, but the Super Falcons stopped them.

The Atlas Lionesses, who lost to defending champions South Africa in the last edition, were 2-0 upfront against title favourite, Super Falcons of Nigeria, in the first half.

Morocco broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through Ghizlane Chebbak, after which Sanna Mssoudy doubled the lead for Morocco to pile up pressure on Nigeria.

The Atlas Lionesses looked more determined to score more as they dominated possession and were more dangerous in the first half, while the Super Falcons struggled to find their rhythm.

However, the Super Falcons came out strongly in the second half against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco and scored through Esther Okoronkwo’s penalty to make it 2-1.

Okoronkwo then assisted Folashade Ijamilusi, who drew Nigeria level, after which Jennifer Echegini then got on the end of a free-kick to score a late winner to end the game 3-2 in favour of Nigeria.

The victory means the Super Falcons of Nigeria have now won a record-extending 10 WAFCON titles. Nigeria also received $1 million prize for winning the title.
