1. Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers are still members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a state High Court sitting in Port-Harcourt ruled on Monday. Justice Okogbule Gbasam held that membership of a party is only proven by being listed on the party’s register.

2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raised a team of operatives to probe the alleged mismanagement of N423 billion by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and some key members of his government. It was learnt that the former governor will soon be invited for questioning.

3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced Solomon Arase as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC). Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesman, who announced this in a statement on Monday, said DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd) is the new chairman of the commission.

4. The 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, on Monday, submitted its report to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations Office at the SGF’s office, announced this in a statement.

5. Ahead of the September 21 and November 16, 2024 off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned that any staff member of the commission involved in corrupt and unethical practices would incur severe punishments under the law.

6. The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has said Nigeria is losing billions of naira to the fuel smuggling epidemic. Adeniyi disclosed this during a press briefing in Yola, Adamawa State capital, on Monday.

7. A 13-year-old boy, Wisdom Hashimu, has died by suicide in the Ungwan Maigero Community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident reportedly happened on Thursday, June 7, after a soldier and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in the area tortured the deceased.

8. A bill seeking a single term of six years for the president and state governors was brought up on Monday by 35 members of the House of Representatives. The bill also canvasses the rotation of the presidency among the six geopolitical zones of the country.

9. The N2.7bn contract fraud trial of the immediate-past Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, opened on Monday with a former Director of Procurement in the Federal Ministry of Aviation, Azubuike Okorie, testifying against him. Sirika is standing trial alongside his daughter, Fatima, son-in-law, Jalal Hamma, and their company, Al-Buraq Investment Limited.

10. The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Tobi Shonibare and Odusanya Oni on charges of allegedly stealing electric cables valued at about N650,000 in the Isonyin community, located in the Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that the suspects were nabbed on June 7, 2024, while trying to sell the allegedly stolen items.
