The National Council for Women Societies Enugu State Chapter, has condemned the abuse and molestation of an 11-year-old househelp by her mistress, Adachukwu Okafor, in Anambra.

Adachukwu, resident in Onitsha, allegedly inserted a hot knife into the minor’s private part, after burning her buttocks with hot electric iron over a minor offence.

She was said to have brought the girl from her parents to live with her in January.

The group’s reaction to the incident is contained in a statement signed by its state President and Secretary, Anthonia Ogbu and Nkiru Onuorah, and made available to journalists on Monday in Enugu.

It wondered how the woman, who claimed to be a mother, would heartlessly indulge in such a “wicked and inhuman” act.

According to the group, the punishment meted to the little girl was not proportional to the offence she allegedly committed.

It urged the Anambra Government, through the Ministry of Gender Affairs, to intensify efforts to fish out the woman from her hiding.

“The State Government must ensure that the culprit, who is currently on the run, is arrested and made to face the full wrath of her wicked action,” the group stated.

It promised to “ensure that justice is served to Adachukwu, whose action on the little girl is despicable, and amounts to child abuse”.

The group cautioned those intending to employ the services of househelps “to scout for mature people, instead of little children, who could not differentiate between their right hand from left”.

“Parents should stop giving out their children as househelps to strangers to curtail child molestation,” the statement added.(NAN)
