1. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has summoned some officials of the Dangote Group to Abuja to come along with detailed documents on foreign exchange transactions by the conglomerate covering the last nine years. The commission is probing the alleged preferential allocations of forex to the Dangote Group owned by billionaire, Aliko Dangote and 51 other companies under the Godwin Emefiele-led Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

2. Tears flowed freely on Friday as the remains of the late former governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, arrived in Nigeria. The late governor’s remains were brought into the country from Germany where he passed away on December 26, 2023.

3. Suspected members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, have allegedly executed its first major attack in 2024 killing a popular pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations, Luka Levong, in Geidam, Yobe State, in the early hours of Friday, January 5, 2024.

4. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the security chiefs to ensure that there is conclusive victory against the myriad of security threats facing the country. The president stated this on Friday while addressing security chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies at a Presidential Security Briefing at the State House, Abuja.

5. Yobe State government has cancelled the licences of all private schools in the state and asked operators interested in following the rules and regulations to re-apply. The state government also said henceforth activities of all private schools in the state will tally with that of public schools.

6. Protesting women on Friday afternoon burnt down the house of the District Head of Bokkos town in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Michal Monday Adanchi. According to a source from the area, the incident occurred around 12:30pm. This followed the recent massacre that claimed the lives of over 200 innocent citizens in the state.

7. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Adeyemi Adaramodu has denied media reports that senators received rice worth N200 million from President Bola Tinubu for distribution to their constituents as palliatives during the Yuletide. However, a Senate source confirmed the development, saying some of the rice palliatives are yet to reach the senators.

8. The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed the N2.267 trillion budget for 2024 presented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu last year. The budget, comprising 58 per cent capital expenditure and 42 per cent recurrent expenditure, was approved after a unanimous voice vote by the lawmakers.

9. A group within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nasarawa State, on Friday, raised concerns about the escalating insecurity in the state, describing it as a haven for criminals. The group, led by Shuaibu Danladi, the leader of Karu PDP Concerned Members, criticized the state government for its perceived failure to effectively address the security challenges plaguing the region.

10. Some academic and non-academic staff members of the Kaduna State University have decried the non-payment of their salaries. The workers said they were yet to receive any salary since they were employed three years ago.
