The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida has stated that the Commission will ensure that Nigerians receive quality and affordable internet service.

Dr. Maida stated this on Wednesday via his X social media handle while responding to a Tweet by a user, “Randy Peter” lamenting over the high cost of data and poor service from service providers.

“Randy Peter” who is also known as Peter Akah, had posted a video complaining of the high cost of data and poor quality of service on his X handle. He further called on the Honorable Minister of Communication as well as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission to intervene.

Mr. Akah, a comedian and entertainer stated that data had become a necessity in the lives of the average Nigerian; describing it as an “essential commodity” he called on the government to engage with stakeholders in the telecommunications industry to address the issue so that citizens could get value for their subscriptions.

Responding to Mr. Peter Akah’s video, Dr. Aminu Maida explained that the mandate of the Commission was to ensure quality of internet service and value for money paid for these service.

“Mr Peter, we understand your frustrations on the issues surrounding cost of data. Our work at the NCC is to ensure that consumers like you receive not just quality service but affordable internet service,” Dr. Maida noted.

Tweeting further, he assured Nigerians that the Commission would be looking into this issue to ensure that they not only get the fair price for data purchase, but also receive improved quality service as well.

“We are looking into this,” Dr. Maida noted, “You can rest assured that Nigerians will pay only the fair price for data—and get improved quality internet service as well.”
