APC ‘Bombs’ Babachir Lawal for Claiming Obi Won 2023 Presidential Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, for claiming that the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, won the 2023 presidential election and not Bola Tinubu as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement on Tuesday night, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described Lawal’s claim as “incoherent aspersions” on the person of the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the exalted office he occupies.

Morka said Lawal’s claim was a clear sign of his disconnect from reality, as he even referred to the election as having been held in May 2023 rather than February.

He challenged Lawal to give a detailed breakdown of his so-called “aggregated facts sourced from independent sources,” which he claimed proved that Obi won the election or forever keep mute.

Morka also accused Lawal of running a jaundiced commentary on a matter before the Supreme Court, which he said was the height of irresponsibility.

Reacting to Lawal’s claim that the “band of appointees that Bola is assembling into his government don’t care about Nigeria,” Morka said he (Babachir Lawal) was still nursing bitterness and vindictiveness over his failed dream of running on a joint ticket with Tinubu and that he was in dire need of professional counselling.

Morka also described Lawal as a “lightweight politician” who thought himself a “heavyweight” and who had failed spectacularly as a politician in his State of Adamawa.

He said Lawal was in no position to offer an opinion on the competence of President Tinubu’s appointees and advised him to concentrate on managing his farm and stop constituting himself into a needless distraction.

Recall that Lawal, in a statement on Tuesday, said that Obi won the 2023 presidential election in the country. According to him, Tinubu knew he would not win in a free and fair contest, so he decided to go by all means. He had noted that Tinubu came a distant third in the number of votes scored.

Lawal also said Tinubu should resign to save himself from public humiliation and embarrassment, given the now “unfolding deluge of uncomplimentary information about who or what he actually is”.
