Following the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which struck out the petition of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi on Wednesday, the party has vowed to end the matter in the Supreme Court.
The Editor recalls that the PEPT on Wednesday ruled that the petition filed by Obi and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and their parties had no merit and unanimously upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu.
The judgment was delivered by the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Haruna Tsammani, assisted by other members of the panel-Justices Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Stephen Adah, Moses Ugo and Abba Mohammed.
Speaking to journalists after the judgement, the Legal Adviser to the Labour Party, Kehinde Edun said the judgement by the tribunal would be further addressed at the apex court.
Citing how the tribunal knocked out the evidence of 10 of 13 witnesses in the LP’s case, Edun described the judgement as strange.
“There are some things that are unacceptable to us. So we need to see what the apex court has to say to this. We have to address this, not only for today, but for the sake of our jurisprudence.
“We want to see what the judges at the Supreme Court will say about all these. It is so important to do this for the sake of tomorrow”, he added.
Similarly, the Head, Media and Communications of the defunct Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Diran Onifade confirmed to that the party would appeal the judgement by the PEPT.
Asked what would be the next line of action, Diran simply said, “we are appealing the judgement”.
