1. President Muhammadu Buhari bade farewell to His Majesty, King Charles III, on Friday, saying his current trip to the UK would be his last official engagement with the monarch. The President stated this while addressing his colleagues during the coronation of the monarch as King of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Commonwealth.

2. Ahead of the swearing-in of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu on May 29, the State House Management has begun renovating and refurbishing sections of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The maintenance is part of the tasks of the Presidential Transition Council chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

3. There are indications that the ruling All Progressives Congress and the President-elect, Bola Tinubu have adopted a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godwill Akpabio, as President of the Senate in the coming 10th National Assembly.

4. A former three-term Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, 60, was on Friday jailed in the United Kingdom for nine years and eight months for an organ trafficking plot. His wife, Beatrice, 56, was also jailed for four years and six months due to her “more limited involvement” in the plot, as the court described Ekweremadu as the “driving force throughout” the process.

5. The Coalition of Northern Groups has said the North-West should be considered for the position of the senate president given that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, got his highest votes from the zone. It also said it would be unfair if the position was zoned to the South since Tinubu is from there.

6. The Nigeria Police have granted administrative bail to the suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa-Ari. The police also withheld his passport as part of preconditions for his administrative bail, restricted his movement to the Federal Capital Territory and directed him to report at the Force Headquarters daily in continuation of the ongoing investigation.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, cannot fight corruption because he is allegedly a product of a corrupt electoral process. The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated this yesterday at a press briefing in Abuja while reacting to the promise by Tinubu to fight corruption.

8. The Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga, yesterday, tasked Nigerian politicians to learn to accept election failures and successes in good faith to grow the nation’s democracy. He gave the task at a meeting with newsmen in Benin to appreciate them and build on the success recorded by the commission in the state.

9. On the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the death of former President Umaru Yar’Adua yesterday, President-elect Bola Tinubu pledged to follow in the footsteps of the man many Nigerians acknowledge as one of the country’s best leaders ever. Tinubu, in a tribute to the deceased, described him as a good friend that would never be forgotten.

10. A 52-year-old Turkish national, Erdogan Guler, and one other yet-to-be-identified man have been abducted by three gunmen in the Kubwa area of Abuja. It was gathered that the incident happened around 7pm on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, and was reported to the Byazhin Police Division, Abuja.
