The Chairman of the Labour Party in Edikwun ward, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, Nathaniel Ochoche, has been killed by suspected herdsmen.

The spokesman for the Labour Party in Benue State, Kengkeng Ati, disclosed this to our correspondent in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.

Ati said the LP chieftain was killed by suspected armed herdsmen in Ankpali village, Edikwu district of the LG.

He said the incident happened at the weekend, adding that the case had been reported at the police station in the local government area.

“It is true; it happened in his village where herdsmen laid ambush by the roadside and killed him.

“A report has been submitted at the police station in the area and they (police) said they on top of it,” he said.

While condemning the killing, Ati appealed to security agents to fish out the killers.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Catherine Anene, said she was not aware of the murder of the ward party leader.

Meanwhile, Benue police said on Tuesday that they arrested a man suspected to be liaising with criminal herders so as to facilitate the attack on a village in Anyiin, Logo LG.

The PPRO, in a statement, gave the suspect’s name as Ephraim Ternenge, adding that he was found “along the Taraba-Benue border wandering in a suspicious manner.”

“During investigation, the suspect confessed to have gone to the forest to liaise with criminal herders to pay him so that he could facilitate an attack on a village in Anyiin,” Anene said.

Anene added that investigation was ongoing to reveal more information about the suspect’s involvement in recent attack and possible arrest of other suspects involved in carrying out such heinous crimes.
