An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has asked Baales and Mogajis in Ibadan to stop wearing crowns and coronets.
The Court presided over by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola gave the order on Thursday.
The Court ordered the Baales (Village Heads) and Mojajis (Compound Heads) who were elevated in Ibadan to return to their original positions before the setting up of the Justice Akintunde Boade Commission of inquiry.
Abimbola while delivering judgement in a case instituted by 34 coronet-wearing Baales and Mogajis elevated alongside some High Chiefs by the immediate past administration in the state, issued an order of perpetual injunction, restraining them from the status of elevation or wearing crowns or coronets.
Our correspondent recalls that the immediate past administration in the state led by late Abiola Ajimobi had in 2017, alongside some High Chiefs in Ibadan, elevated the Baales and Mogajis.
Justice Abimbola who dismissed the application filed before the court by the Baales and Mogajis, in his judgement explained that he found no merit in it.
He further maintained that all government’s actions must be in compliance with the law of the land.
Our correspondent gathered that the claimants had argued that the consent judgement which nullified the review that elevated them was not valid.
The claimants said they were not part of those who made the agreements that formed the consent judgment.
Abimbola then ruled that the applicants do not have the right to wear crowns or coronets.
He warned them to desist from wearing the traditional symbol of office.
