“No state can measure up to Kano state in corruption fight” – Ganduje

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Governor of Kano State, has submitted that no state in Nigeria can measure up to his state in the fight against corruption.
The Editor reports that Ganduje made statement on Thursday during the International Ombudsman Day celebration held at the Kano Anti-Corruption Institute (KANCI) in Kano.

According to him, the state is the only one in the whole federation that has a fully functional and vibrant anti-corruption agency that complements what is been done at the federal level.
Ganduje made the submission while speaking at the programme where he was represented by Barrister Lawan Musa Abdullahi, Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

He said the establishment of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) and Kano Anti-Corruption Institute to tackle issues of corruption, is a feat that remains unmatched by any other state in the entire federation.

The event was attended by representatives of the EFCC, ICPC and NHRC who all commended the effort of the state commission in its fight against corruption.

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Smart Adeyemi has stated that public officers that steal state funds should have their hands cut off as punishment.

He said this while speaking recently at a retreat for the senate press corps in Lokoja, Kogi state. The Senator said if this is done, such corrupt officials will desist from stealing public funds and corruption will be stamped out of the system.

Senator Adeyemi said: “Like I said on the floor of the Senate; if we want this country to be great, we must look at some acts of parliament; moreso the ones that have to do with anti-graft agencies. I want my children to be happier than I am in Nigeria, and to do that there must be enough money to meet the needs and and aspirations of the people,” he said.

“What am I talking about? Let us confront corruption. Very soon I’m coming back to the chamber to bring bills on ICPC and EFCC. I want us to introduce Mosaic law, what you call Sharia law. By the time you cut the hands of 10, 20 people in this country, nobody will want to steal again.

“By the time you say two, three people should face serious punishment; if you say that is too harsh let us have mechanised agriculture of about 200, 250 acres, once you are involved in corruption, you will spend your life farming for us.”

The Mosaic law is ascribed to Moses in the old testament of the Bible. He wrote the 12 testaments which guided Israel at the time.
