President Buhari Commended By UK Government On Signing Of New Police Bill

The government of the United Kingdom has reacted to the signing of the new Police Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.

Reacting after the development was made public on Thursday, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, said the signing of the bill is a step in the right direction.

Recall wordpress-855970-2955902.cloudwaysapps.com earlier reported that the new Police Act which repeals Cap. P19. Laws of the Federation, 2004, and provides for a more effective and well organized Police Force was signed into law on Thursday by President Buhari.

Laing in her reaction via her Twitter account, said: “This is excellent news. The Nigeria Police Bill is a key step towards modernisation of @PoliceNG. @UKinNigeria proud to have played our part in supporting development of the Bill through our partners.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in and out of Edo State for the conduct of the state governorship election on Saturday.

According to the IGP in a statement released on Thursday, September 17, the restriction would help to prevent touts and other criminally-minded individuals within and outside the state from hijacking and disrupting the electoral processes.

Adamu noted that the vehicular movement restriction will start from 11:59PM on Friday, 18th September, 2020 through 6pm on Saturday, 19th September, 2020.

The IGP enjoins citizens to go out en-masse on Saturday and vote candidate of their choice, noting that the Police and other security agencies have been sufficiently mobilized to provide a safe, secure and conducive environment for the election.
