Benue: Nigeria’s Military Killing Of Gana, Governor Ortom Reacts

Theeditorngr.com reports that the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has expressed shock over the killing of Terwase Akwaza, aka Gana by the Nigerian Military.

The Governor who spoke on Wednesday, stated that the action of the military is now under investigation and appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is completed.

It will be recalled that Gana a wanted criminal gang leader in Benue state, northcentral Nigeria surrendered.

Theeditorng.com understands that the wanted gang leader surrendered for the amnesty programme in Katsina-Ala township stadium in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue North senatorial zone on Tuesday, September 8.

However, after he surrendered, the operation AYEM APKATUMA III of the Nigerian military revealed that it has killed the wanted Benue gang leader.

Explaining how he was killed by the military, the Commandant, Major General Moundhey Gadzama Ali while addressing reporters on Tuesday night in Doma LGA of Nasarawa state, headquarters of the 4 Special Forces Command where the lifeless body of Gana was paraded, said Gana was killed in a shoot out with the military, adding that 40 of Gana’s men have been captured in the operation and under custody to be handed over to the civil authorities for prosecution.

Reacting to the entire development, Governor Ortom, on Wednesday, while speaking with journalists at the new banquet hall of Government House, Makurdi said the matter will be properly investigated.

The Governor added that the action by the military will not truncate the amnesty programme by the government while those prevented from surrendering due to the killing of Gana will be given another chance to surrender.

He urged the people of Sankera to remain calm as he was still investigating circumstances surrounding the arrest and killing of Gana before taking action on the matter, stressing that he owes Benue people the duty to protect lives and property.
