Offa Bank Robbery: Ilorin Youths Protest Saraki’s Planned Trial

A group of young people from Ilorin Emirate in Kwara State staged a peaceful march on Thursday to show support for former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over a planned court case linked to the 2018 Offa robbery incident.

This online medium reports that that the rally took place on April 23, 2026, as participants walked through major roads in Ilorin, carrying placards and chanting messages backing Saraki. The protest began at Omoda Roundabout and ended at the forecourt of the Emir of Ilorin’s palace.

The demonstration followed a suit filed by the Kwara State Government against Saraki, former governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and others. The case accuses them of having a role in the deadly Offa robbery that happened in April 2018. A trial date has been set for June 4.

During the march, the youths displayed different messages rejecting the case and declaring their support for Saraki. Many of them claimed the renewed attention on the robbery incident was driven by politics rather than a real search for justice.

Speaking at the gathering, the Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, Adio Odunjo, addressed the crowd. He said the return of the Offa robbery matter into public discussion was reopening old pain for families affected by the attack.

He also called on the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to stop actions that could create tension in the state. According to him, revisiting the case could disturb the peace and stability of Kwara.

Odunjo told the gathering that the issue had already gone through legal processes in the past, and he questioned why it was being brought up again. He said the youths at the rally were not trying to cause trouble but were expressing concern about what they see as a worrying political direction in the state.

He added that bringing back the case instead of focusing on current challenges facing residents shows a lack of proper leadership.
