Senators-elect who support Godswill Akpabio’s bid for the Senate Presidency have donned their attire in preparation for the 10th National Assembly inauguration.
Captured in a video monitored by THE EDITOR NIGERIA, the lawmakers-elect, predominantly dressed in white, have their Senate tags hung on their necks. These tags will get them access to the chambers of the Senate.
Pictures also show Akpabio and senators backing him already seated in the Senate chambers.
It is worth noting that the 10th National Assembly is scheduled to commence its inaugural session promptly at 10:00 AM today, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proclamation.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially endorsed Godswill Akpabio for the position of Senate President and Barau Jibrin for Deputy Senate President. Nonetheless, Akpabio, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, faces fierce competition from Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, in the battle for the nation’s third-highest position.
This scenario arouses memories of the 2015 Senate Presidency election when Bukola Saraki defied the APC’s chosen candidate, Ahmed Lawan, and clinched the position through an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party.
