Lionel Messi’s £26 million hotel in Barcelona ‘to be demolished’

Following Lionel Messi’s record seventh Ballon d’Or win on Monday, the PSG superstar’s week is about to go from boom to doom after his hotel in Barcelona, Spain is reportedly marked for demolition.

The Argentine legend’s £26 million owned hotel has reportedly been slapped with a court order for its demolition, according to El Confidential.

The four-star hotel named ‘MiM Sitges’ was bought by Messi in 2017 from a businessman named Francisco Sánchez for more than £30 million.

Why is the hotel at risk of being demolished?

According to reports from Spain, the Argentine forward bought the hotel unaware that Sitges Town Hall had already ordered the demolition of the hotel due to its non-compliance with urban regulations.

The hotel doesn’t comply with the urban regulations because of its huge balconies. The structure of the balconies of the hotel is rooted in the general construction of the building and to eliminate them, the entire hostel has to be demolished in order to make it comply with the urban regulations.

It is also claimed that another of the hotel’s problems is that the fire emergency plan failed to get a favourable report from the authorities and the consequences of a possible fire could be dangerous.

The hotel located just 50 meters from the beach, in the heart of Sitges was built in 2013. It has 77 rooms and suites, 300 square meters of lounges with natural light and an equipped ‘spa’ with a water circuit”. It also has a swimming pool, gym and ‘sky bar’.

The price on weekends, for example now, from December 3 to 5, moves in the range of £105 and £216 per night for two people on a room-only basis.

The court order for the demolition of the hotel is currently pending but as things stand the future of the Argentine’s hotel is very much in doubt.
