The Senate on Wednesday stated that it had nothing to do with the invitation of President Muhammadu Buhari by the House of Representatives.

The former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abulrasheed Maina, on Thursday, collapsed before trial Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

 

 

 

Maina, who is facing money laundering charges, slumped down shortly after the court resumed proceedings in the 12-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) preferred against him and his firm, Common Input Property and Investment Limited.

Major-General Olu Irefin, the Genera Officer Commanding (GOC) six division, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, has died of complications from coronavirus (COVID-19).

 

Maj.-Gen. Irefin was attending the ongoing Chief of Army Staff’s Annual Conference 2020 in Abuja before he took ill and died, The Cable reports.

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan is free to seek the party’s 2023 presidential ticket.

 

Secondus made the declaration on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja where he spoke on his 3-year stewardship as the PDP Chairman.

 

  1. Hoodlums Storm Ogun State Assembly, Steal Mace

The Ogun State Police Command on Thursday confirmed that suspected hoodlums invaded the premises of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

 

 

 

The suspected hoodlums burgled the office of the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo overnight and escaped with the mace.

 

  1. Buhari Govt Drastically Reduces Data Price

The Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Thursday announced a reduction of the price of data by more than 50 per cent following a directive that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) should put in place measures to that effect.

 

This was made known in a statement by the Technical Assistant to the Minister of Communications and digital economy Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami, Mr Femi Adeluyi.

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider his decision to sack the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Nasir Argungu.

 

The call followed a point of order raised during plenary by the Senator representing Jigawa East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Hadejia.

 

  1. Yakubu Resumes Office As INEC Chairman

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has resumed as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second-term.

 

Yakubu went into a closed-door session with the national commissioners after arriving to a rousing reception by INEC headquarters staff and guests at about 11:20.

 

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the commencement of his second-term, Prof. Yakubu said he had steadily strengthened the institutional capacity of INEC to carry on with its mandate even in the absence of a Chairman.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its planned nationwide membership validation and registration exercise.

 

The National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee, John Akpan UdoUdehe made this known on Thursday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

 

  1. ASUU Reveals Only Condition To End Strike, Tells Government What To Do

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday denied entering into any agreement to end its strike action by December 9, 2020, as suggested by the Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige.

 

ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi in a statement on the lingering strike action explained that “the strike would only be suspended when the union’s organs affirm that the welfare and wellbeing of ASUU members, as well as the survival of our public universities, are sufficiently guaranteed.”
