A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olabode George, has lamented the rising insecurity level in the country, stating that the situation has gone beyond control.

George, a founding member of the nation’s main opposition party, stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Friday.

“The state of our nation has been completely in a shambolic situation, it is in perpetual despair and despondency.

“There is hunger in the land and there is anger in the land; the insecurity has gone beyond control,” he lamented.

George said after listening to President Bola Tinubu’s New Year speech, he (Tinubu) has a lot of work to do to alleviate the insecurity state in the country.

He also cautioned the President and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Olusegun Osoba, saying, “So when you look at all those things; we are all Nigerians and I listened to his (Tinubu) New Year speech and I also listened to what Chief Osoba said, this is not the time to play politics, it is our nation.”

The PDP chieftain added that Nigerians will give the President the chance to improve the country’s woes in security, saying, “He (Tinubu) has a hell of a job to do and I have listened to him. He has these eight objectives for the year, national defence, internal security, and job creation; the man who left who was my oga did a woeful job, he did not do well at all; they belong to the same party.

“So, we all Nigerians will give him a chance, let us see how he is going to handle it.

“Bola Tinubu, God will guide him.”

PUNCH Online reports that terrorists attacked and killed over 100 persons in 17 villages in the Barkin Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos Local Government Areas of the Plateau State on Christmas Eve.

The attacks also displaced over 10,000 persons, many of whom were presently taking refuge in churches, mosques, schools, and private residences.

More so, no fewer than six traders lost their lives on Friday when their convoy of vehicles ran into bandits in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The traders were travelling from Maidabino village to participate in a weekly market located at  Yantumaki.

The two villages are within Danmusa Local Government Area.

Residents revealed that the traders always travel in convoys because of the security situation in the council.
