Oby Ezekwesili, former Minister of Education has condemned calls seeking sympathy and love for bandits.

Recall that popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, had mentioned that bandits are peaceful people and victims of circumstances who were forced into criminality.

The Islamic teacher had called for a more lenient approach to the bandits, adding that attacking them brings out the ‘monster’ in them.

But Ezekwesili, reacting, described the calls for Nigerians to show love to bandits as an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians.

On her Twitter page, the former minister wrote: “ Something is noxiously off around here.
“What is with all this ratcheting up of choruses asking traumatized citizens to “show love and sing Kumbaya” for rebranded terrorists now called ‘bandits’ by their sympathizers?

“Please stop insulting our sensibilities. Please stop it!

Something is noxiously off around here.

What is with all this ratcheting up of choruses asking traumatized citizens to “show love and sing Kumbaya” for rebranded terrorists now called ‘bandits’ by their sympathizers?

Please stop insulting our sensibilities.
Please stop it!✍🏾

In another tweet, Ezekwesili wrote”

“I wonder what country all these fellows that are already beating the drums of 2023 Presidential race are planning to govern?

“Our currently wobbly Nigeria? I have an advice for all of you.

“Better use that energy to work toward a National Conversation on Nigeria’s Future.”

Recently, Banditry has been on the rampage in states like Niger, Katsina and some parts of the North.

Recall that about 41 persons including students and staff of Government Science College, GSC, in Kagara were recently abducted by bandits.

Several other innocent citizens have been butchered, maimed and killed in attacks on villages by the armed bandits, whom Sheikh Gumi intercedes for.
