Police Arraign Three Suspects Over Alleged Invasion of Alawo’s palace
The Police in Osun, on Tuesday, arraigned three persons before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for the alleged invasion of the palace of the Alawo of Awo and possession of dangerous weapons.
The trio include Adebayo Mutiu, 40, Sikiru Oloyede, 46, and Habib Oloyede, 28.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP John Idoko, disclosed to the court that the defendants committed the offence at about 10 am on August 26, at the Alawo Palace.
Idoko said the defendants conspired among themselves with others now at large to breach the peace of the Awo town by chanting war songs and also promoting inter-communal conflict.
According to him, “They invaded the palace of Awo with intent to dethrone the Alawo of Awo, Oba Abdulrazaq Adeboye and threatened to kill him.
”They wielded dangerous weapons which left some residents of Awo town in a fearful and panic mode.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 516, 42, 86, 70, and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol.11, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendants were slammed with a six-count charge on conspiracy, breach of public peace, unlawful possession of dangerous weapons and threat to kill.
The Defense Counsel, Kehinde Adesiyan, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms.
The presiding Magistrate, A.A. Adeyeba, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million and two sureties in the like sum.
Adeyeba who stated that one of the sureties must be a prominent member of Awo town, added that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payments and affidavit of means.
The case was adjourned to October 12 for mention.
