COVID-19: Active community spread ongoing in Lagos – Commissioner
The Lagos Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, says there is an ongoing active community spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Abayomi disclosed this via his Twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi, noting, “Active community spread of #COVID19 is still ongoing in Lagos.â€
He urged people to be extra careful: “This is the time to be extra careful and ensure frequent #Handwashing with soap under running water, #maskup when in public and maintain social distancing.â€
While confirming 100 new COVID-19 infections in the state, Abayomi said the number of confirmed positive cases in Lagos stands at 13,543 as of Monday, July 20.
The commissioner said the state had tested a total of 56,276 samples for COVID-19 pandemic, even as the death toll currently stands at 192.
According to him, 2,075 of the confirmed cases have since been discharged from COVID-19 care centres following their full recovery.
Abayomi added that “9,066 of the confirmed cases monitored in communities by #COVID19Lagos response team have either fully recovered or positively responding to treatment.
“174 of the cases are currently under isolation in #COVID19Lagos Care Centres; 2,036 active cases in communities are yet to be admitted into #COVID19Lagos care centres.
“One #COVID19 related death was recorded. Total number of #COVID19 related deaths now stands at 192.â€
As it stands, Lagos leads the toll of Nigeria’s COVID-19 infections with 13,543 of the overall 37,801 confirmed cases.
