BREAKING: Troops Rescue Four Zamfara Students
The Nigerian military has rescued four kidnapped students of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) in Zamfara State.
Recall that the students were abducted by terrorists in the dark hours on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from their off-campus residence at Sabon Gida in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area of the North West state.
According to a counter-insurgency expert based in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, the students were rescued by the troops of Operation HADARIN.
Makama quoting a military source said the rescue was achieved as the troops responded swiftly to distress calls on the kidnapped students by terrorists.
He said the troops immediately mobilized and formed a blocking position at a possible withdrawal route which led to a heavy gun duel with the terrorists, adding that the troops’ superiority forced the terrorists to abandon the victims and flee.
During the encounter with the terrorists around 12 a.m., two of the students were able to escape while the other two students a male and a female were safely rescued by the troops.
Recall that terrorists, on Wednesday, invaded the University and stole all the medications found at the university clinic.
Gunmen had also kidnapped some students of the school weeks ago.
